The O Injection and Platelet Rich Plasma
The Orgasm Shot, is a noninvasive procedure used to correct issues of sexual dysfunction in women. The shot itself consists of regenerative materials called platelet rich plasma (PRP).
Every person’s body contains platelets that are rich in bioactive proteins, which help to promote healing and regeneration of our cells and tissues. This is what allows us to recover from a wound or illness of the body. The shot harnesses this ability by taking a sample of the patient’s blood and putting it through a centrifuge to create a concentrated dose of platelet rich plasma that can then be injected anywhere on the body.
Medical professionals of several different fields have been studying the effects of PRP treatment to achieve shorter recovery times from major surgical operations such as joint replacement. After years of research and results were gathered, new treatment options were explored, leading to the use of PRP as an aesthetic procedure.
O Injection Treatment Benefits
As mentioned, the injection can be used to address a variety of female sexual dysfunction symptoms, including:
- Pain during intercourse
- Vaginal dryness
- Inability to orgasm or to have a strong orgasm
- Urinary incontinence
- Lack of sexual desire
- Difficulty to become aroused
Many of these symptoms stem from several common sexual disorders, such as dyspareunia, anorgasmia, female sexual arousal disorder, hypoactive sexual desire disorder, and more. Fortunately, the injection has shown effective results for each and every one of these disorders!
Results may of course vary on a case-by-case basis, so it is important to speak thoroughly with your provider about your eligibility for the procedure and what sort of results you expect before beginning treatment.
During the Procedure
On the day of your procedure a small needle is inserted into the arm to obtain the patient’s own blood sample. This is then spun down to get the PRP. A topical numbing cream is applied to the vagina as well as the clitoris. To assure total comfort, lidocaine is also injected to the area. One injection of PRP is then injected into the anterior wall of the vagina and a smaller injection adjacent to the clitoris. The procedure itself takes less than five minutes and patients can resume all normal activities that day. The entire process is completed in a few simple steps:
- The patient will be asked to lie down and relax
- A topical numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area to avoid any potential discomfort
- The PRP is injected into targeted points around the vagina
Upon leaving our office, patients will be asked to regularly practice a few easy pelvic floor strengthening exercises in order to maximize the effects of the injection treatment. It is safe for individuals to resume sexual activity within approximately 4 hours following the procedure, though they may not notice significant improvements from the treatment until several days afterward.
